We started this campaign a year ago right here, in San Diego Harbor, against the backdrop of American Naval power. We launched a campaign emphasizing a strong national defense, enforceable borders and restoring the industrial base of America.

Today we end this campaign. The Nevada caucuses reflecting only 2% of the vote for me. I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it’s time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable.It’s time for me to gear up for 2008’s defense bill that will be put together over the coming weeks. There is work to be done in the areas of troop protection and new capabilities to be deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And over the horizon, the emergence of Communist China as a military super power will require a new emphasis on U.S. capabilities in undersea warfare, space, and long range air-power.

The best way to maintain a new era of peace is for the U.S. to remain strong. Over the coming year I will endeavor to help craft a defense bill that meets the new security challenges.
Since our campaign began over 200,000 additional manufacturing jobs have been lost. 1.8 million jobs have left the U.S. for China. This fracturing of the U.S. industrial base is a long term threat to America. I hope that the remaining candidates will recognize it and address it. As the senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, I will seek to address it.

Only hours ago a border patrolman was killed in the California Desert. This tragedy emphasizes more than ever the compelling case for the completion of the border fence. Since I wrote the bill that mandates 854 miles of double border fence only a few miles have been constructed. Over the next year in Congress I will do everything in my power to get that fence built.

Finally, for Lynn and me, the campaign over the last year has shown us this: America is a wonderful country. Our people have great character and goodness, and the meeting of new friends has enriched our lives.

The failure of our campaign to gain traction is mine and mine alone. But we have driven the issues of national security, the border fence, the emergence of China and the need to reverse bad trade policy. Because of that, this campaign has been very worthwhile, and for the Hunter family, a lot of fun.

To our friends and supporters and volunteers: many thanks. And now it’s time for me to focus on developing a 2008 defense bill that serves our troops and our nation.Thanks, and God Bless America.

I want to thank all people who have read this blog over the past few months. I appreciate it. I enjoyed doing it, and I have no regrets. Some may argue that I ultimately wasted my time and efforts, but I don't believe that at all. You never, ever have to regret standing up for what is right. Standing up for God, country, and family are what I believe to be of importance in life. I found a man running for the highest office in the land who wanted the same thing. Like Duncan Hunter has said, you get a chance. It was a hard ride, but I'd do it again in a heart beat for a man like Duncan Hunter. There isn't another candidate I can stand behind 100%, but I will likely support Duncan Hunter's endorsement. I will post that here for all of you. My only two choices at this point are Romney and Huckabee. So, thanks again. I may start another blog for the GOP Nominee in Ohio, depending on who he is. Let's pray for the sake of America that we have not seen the end of Duncan Hunter. A man with his ability should be given a VP or cabinet position in the next Presidency. If a Democrat ultimately wins this year, I pray with all my heart that Duncan Hunter will run again in 2012, where, the good Lord willing I'm still here, I will support him again. God bless you all!

Beyond the well understood manipulations of the press on candidates as making of politics almost solely an emotional manipulation of the fallen heart is the reality of leadership God accomplishes through those whom He wishes.

The press and the manipulators in front and behind them have sought this election cycle as part of yet another social experiment on the American people to put presidential candidates in a box of ( false..) Christianity as a go, no-go scenario simply to move on to what they wish to manipulate: the economy, the war, more social experimentation..everything else. In their minds, having gotten over a Christian nation’s weird fixation on Jesus Christ, now we can get on with the really important things like denying Jesus Christ “in government” and “in public”, yet “holding vehemently” to “private views” ( as loosely defined “foundations”/”ideal models of behavior” per the lie of free will ) as a supposed indicator of superior personal character that qualifies one for “leadership” and they are simple “facilitators” in that “process”.

Giuliani is the "anti-terrorism" candidate, by virtue of his high profile on 9/11.

Romney is the guy who can handle finances.

Fred is the Second Amendment champion.

But, Duncan Hunter is all of those and more!

So we've started asking a simple question to people we meet who say they're supporting one of these men.

"Where do your core beliefs come from?"

"Do the things you're passionate about, the things that are important to you, come from what's popular, or do they come from what is right?"

Hutchison on defensive over border fence amendment

As you know, I have posted since the beginning of this blog about the law Duncan Hunter had passed to expand the border fence across the Southern border. He cmapaigned on it, and he encouraged the Bush Administration to get to work on building it. Then, in December, I posted that Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson slipped an amendment into the defense bill to gut the border fence. It passed in both houses and was signed. Duncan Hunter voted for the defeense bill in order to support our troops, but the fence has been gutted.

WASHINGTON — In an uncharacteristic display of public frustration with party colleagues, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison on Friday sharply criticized two Republican congressmen who had accused her of a stealth effort to derail the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Conservative blogs and pundits have attacked Hutchison ever since Reps. Peter King of New York and Duncan Hunter of California accused the Texas Republican of essentially repealing Congress' mandate to build 700 miles of fencing. "This was a midnight massacre," King said of an amendment Hutchison shepherded into law last month. "It was absolutely disgraceful."

After being labeled "Panderer to the Criminal Invader" and called a traitor to border security, Hutchison fought back Friday. "There is misinformation, and I think the congressmen who should know better exactly what has happened have been a little loose with the facts," she said in an interview.

Open Letter to the South Carolina GOP – Duncan Hunter is the Only Choice

Note this was written the day after the South Carolina debate last week, which Duncan Hunter was sadly excluded from. This is applicable to all states voting in reality, especially Michigan, as Michigan is voting today. There are comparisons to McCain, Huckabee, Thompson, Romney, and Giuliani.

Your state has the opportunity to help shape the election at this historic time in our nation’s history. In fact, you have the opportunity to turn it on its head, for the sake of our shared conservative principles. Duncan Hunter represents the Reagan wing of the party. Congressman Duncan Hunter was Reagan’s right hand man in the House. In addition, one of Reagan’s campaign promises was to attempt to restore the constitutional right to prayer in schools, which the courts had stripped away. Though he failed in his attempts, Hunter led the campaign on this as well, and continues to support overturning this blatant unconstitutionalism. Hunter also formed the Conservative Opportunity Society with Vin Webber and Newt Gingrich in the 1980s to recruit fellow staunch conservatives to run for office to displace RINOs and democrats, leading up to the 1994 GOP sweep.

CARO — The flurry of campaigning by Republican presidential candidates on Tuesday's primary ballot hit home Thursday as Duncan Hunter made a stop in Caro during the annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Brentwood in Caro.

The dinner, comprised of more than 100 Huron and Tuscola Republicans, featured the Republican presidential candidate as well as Josh Romney, son of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Hunter is a congressman of 26 years, representing the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives. A Vietnam Veteran serving in the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers, Hunter formerly chaired the House Armed Services Committee.

I had the pleasure of being in New Hampshire monday with Duncan Hunter working on his campaign. One thing I got to see first hand, was the vehicle that I believe got John McCain his win there. More than anything else, the main street intersections, and the polling places, had young people there, carrying signs , and chanting his name repeatedly. Those "Boots on the Ground" were a very impressive sight, and I firmly believe that they had the most effect on the turnout. If we are to get Duncan Hunter to move up in the polls, this strategy will help a lot. I guarantee that this was effected by a lot of folks making phone calls, and enlisting their friends. Outspent 200 plus to 1 by the Romney campaign, Duncan Hunter pulls out a third place finish in the Wyoming caucuses. Duncan’s experience and solid campaign platform resonate with the Wyoming people. Lately, it seems most of the candidates (except John McCain head of the Kennedy wing of the Republican party or the Democrats ) are emulating Duncan Hunter’s position on Illegal immigration, Border security and the Border fence.

DUNCAN HUNTER EARNS ENDORSMENT FROM NEVADA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY

On January 4, 5 and 6, 2008 the Nevada Republican Assembly held a Presidential Endorsing Convention in Reno, Nevada. On Saturday they held a Presidential rally where each of the campaigns presented their candidate and the issues they stand for. The organization also held a Straw Poll for those who attended the rally. Congressman Hunter came in 3rd place in the straw poll behind Ron Paul and John McCain.

On Sunday, the NVRA met to vote on the candidate that their organization would endorse for President in 2008. This organization has one of the largest concentrations of conservative Republicans in it’s membership. They uphold the principles of supporting our constitution, limited government, love of God, state sovereignty, controlled spending, sanctity of life, parental rights, protection of private property, 2nd amendment rights, security of our borders, fair trade, educational excellence, and fair and equal taxation rights.

The NVRA held a series of votes to reach their choice for endorsement of Congressman Duncan Hunter for President in 2008. Duncan Hunter had a clear lead throughout all 5 rounds of voting. In order for the assembly to reach a final decision for the endorsement, the candidate had to have a 2/3 majority vote. Duncan Hunter won that endorsement over Fred Thompson with more than the 2/3 required. Hunter’s clear, consistent conservative message has resonated with residents in Nevada.

Free trade? C'mon

This is exactly what Duncan Hunter has been saying about free trade.

We should rename "free trade." Because it isn't free and it isn't fair. Since it's trade that's regulated in favor of multinational special-interest groups, why don't we call it for what it is: rigged market trade?

Why are we so afraid to call a spade a spade? There are 36,000 fewer U.S. factories than there were eight years ago. One in five manufacturing jobs has been lost nationally in the last 10 years.

If we don't stem the tide of multinationalism through trade law reform, then between 42 million and 56 million of the 140 million U.S. jobs could be moved off-shore within 20 years, including all 14 million current jobs in manufacturing. We'll be left without any manufacturing, which is at the core of our country's national security.

Military Buildup Continues in China

I've posted a good deal about Duncan Hunter's position on trade with China and the ultimate threat China poses.

China has introduced a number of new weapons lately and that has more than a few people upset.

For example, the most recent estimate of Chinese missiles now opposite Taiwan is 1,000. This cold fact has drawn the attention of the Pentagon, Tokyo, and Taipei.

Those 1,000 missiles are just about the right number to start and win a war over Taiwan.

Hunter Wins One Delegate in Wyoming and Other News

He came in 3rd following candidates Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.

Sadly, Duncan Hunter was excluded from the NH ABC debate and the NH Fox Debate. He hosted his own townhall meeting with one of his big supporters, Chuck Yeager, during the ABC debate. The NH GOP dropped its support from the NH Fox Debate because both Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter were excluded.

Duncan Hunter made an announcement on Monday the 7th before the primary that he wasn't happy about being excluded. He also made a surprise visit on Hardball with Chrissy Matthews.

Republican Presidential Candidate Duncan Hunter lashed out against the media for excluding him from televised debates leading up to tomorrow’s primary. Sara Sciammacco reports from New Hampshire.

Standing in front of a handful of TV cameras and supporters, Hunter attacked ABC News and Fox News. The two news organizations excluded him from Republican Presidential debates this past weekend.

But I am not going quit, Mr. Corporate Executive! You think you can turn the light off on this campaign by taking off the debates 72 hours before the poll's over.

Hunter says he'll fight all the way to the West, where he believes he'll garner strong support.

First, let me congratulate you for living in one of the most beautiful states in the Union. My home state of Washington gives Wyoming a run for the money, but unlike you, we have several million liberals that tend to pollute the scenery.

Iowa has spoken. And as usual, they have voted with their hearts, not their heads. They voted in Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney for the top two spots. Granted, both Mike and Mitt are currently unemployed and had much time to spend gladhanding the good folks in Iowa. However, what Iowegians did not do is bother to understand the records of the two gentlemen in question, and fell prey, once again, to a fellow who spins a good yarn, and one that ‘looks presidential’. After all, Iowa supported GHW Bush over an excellent conservative named Ronald Reagan.

While Mr. Huckabee is certainly a social conservative, he is what we in the west call a nanny-stater. He vows to support a nationwide ban on smoking in public places. Now please tell me what on God’s green earth makes him think the Federal Government has any authority to even contemplate such stupidity. While governor of Arkansas, the Huck instituted ARKids, a nice little socialized medicine program that would make Hillary blush. In addition to that, he promoted a policy to fight obesity, by banning so called ‘junk food’ from the schools and, worse, having the kids subjected to body fat tests. Top this nonsense off with his career long coddling of illegal aliens, going so far to call the conservatives in Arkansas who proposed to cut off benefits to illegals “racists and demagogues”, and his liberal record on taxes and what you end up with is a socially conservative democrat. I guess if you claim to be doing it for God or ‘for the children’, then you can bamboozle a fair number of voters.

Romney Photo Ops at Hunters Border Fence

Candidate Mitt Romney has sent out a campign flier to Republicans in Nevada, claiming his strength on border enforcement. For the photo op, I'm sure he briefly stepped out of his air conditioned motor home to have his picture taken in front of the border fence built by Duncan Hunter.

The fence in the background was built though the efforts of Representative Duncan Hunter. He is the real conservative in this campaign.

Northern Nevadans Listen to Duncan Hunter

After making a round of campaign stops in Northern Nevada after the Christmas holiday, Congressman Duncan Hunter found that Nevadans support his run for President. Congressman Duncan Hunter attended a townhall meeting in Reno on December 27, 2007 where there were almost 50 in attendance. All 3 of the local affiliate stations turned out to cover the meeting and interview Congressman Hunter. There were two other local stations and the local newspaper there to cover the event. Hunter spoke on the issues of unfair trade practices with China, the threat of terrorism in our country through our open borders and our rising problem with illegal immigration. General Chuck Yeager also spoke at the townhall meeting and told his story about how he broke the sound barrier and how the creation of jets came about.

The next evening, Congressman Hunter and General Yeager spoke to a standing room only crowd in Carson City, NV. There were over 100 people in attendance. Nevada’s First Lady Dawn Gibbons was there to meet him when he walked in the door and led a cheering section as he entered into the townhall meeting. The crowd in Carson City were very receptive to his message and liked each of the points that Hunter discussed. He spoke more in depth on the issues of education, the War on Terror, Iran, unfair trade with China and our economy. General Yeager also told his story of his career in the Air Force and told them why he supported Duncan Hunter. The people who showed up at this townhall meeting were so thrilled to support Duncan Hunter and they were anxious to spread the word about him to their friends. They all left with at least one of the new CDs that the campaign has just released. This CD is an excellent tool to spread the message about Duncan Hunter and it’s easy for folks to listen to it in their car on the way to work or wherever they are traveling.

During this trip Congressman Hunter and General Yeager toured the Nevada State Museum in Carson City and were able to see the Carson City Mint and see how the machine operated. Congressman Hunter also visited a locally owned and operated outdoor outfitter called Mark Fore and Strike. This business has been owned by 4 generations of the same family. Congressman Hunter enjoyed meeting with the Stodtmeisters (owners) and appreciated their knowledgeable staff who helped him pick out a gift for the Yeagers.

For that, we are eternally grateful. In 1996, you bucked the polls and chose Pat Buchanan over the milquetoast Bob Dole. Though Buchanan had and has his own issues, the one area where he did trump all the others was a real understanding what illegal immigration was doing to our country. Now, 12 years later, that problem that Buchanan warned about has come home to roost. And you have the opportunity to select a candidate that has been even more stalwart than Buchanan, or anyone else in politics for the last 26 years for that matter, on fighting the scourge of illegal immigration. Duncan Hunter even opposed the 1986 Reagan Amnesty (Simpson –Mazzoli), something Buchanan was pushing as Reagan’s Communications Director. As Pat found out, Hunter’s arm don’t twist.

Whereas Mr. Buchanan has managed to put himself into the fringes of the Republican Party in recent years, Hunter has held true to the Reagan vision of Peace through Strength, confronting our enemies, and shrinking the federal leviathan, in addition to being the true leader on immigration reform.

Hunter is the only candidate who understands that communist China is preparing for war, while we foolishly allow massive transfers of technology and manufacturing prowess to move from our shores to theirs. Hunter vociferously opposed Clinton’s ‘Permanent Normal Trade Relations’ gift to the chicoms, while Fred Thompson, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee all supported it.

In 1976, you picked Gerald Ford, proponent of the ERA and abortion rights, over a very conservative Ronald Reagan. In 1980, you chose a very moderate Bush over Reagan. And twice you picked a milquetoast named Bob Dole. Granted, the choices are sometimes between dud and duddier, but this year is different. This year you have a chance to select a rock-ribbed conservative Reaganite to make up for not choosing the original Reaganite when you had the chance. The name is Duncan Hunter.

Congressman Duncan Hunter is a representative from California’s 52nd legislative district. Mr. Hunter put his college career on hold to volunteer with the 173rd Airborne Rangers to fight the communists in Vietnam. Like Reagan, Hunter believes that war was not only very winnable, but was indeed a “noble cause”. And the killing fields that followed our departure from that conflict are a bold testament to their vision over the head-in-the-sand lack of vision (which continues to this day) from the defeatist democrats and RINOs.

Duncan Hunter also entered office with Reagan in 1981, at the ripe old age of 32. He immediately was able to join the Armed Services Committee in Congress, where he has remained to this day, as former Chairmen, and current Ranking Republican. It was in large part due to Mr. Hunter’s efforts, teaming with folks like Jack Kemp and Henry Hyde, that Reagan was able to ramrod our historic military buildup through Congress in the 80s, which revitalized every branch of our Armed Services. Jack Kemp even credits Hunter with being the go-to guy for strong-arming the very controversial ‘Star Wars’ Strategic Defense Initiative through the House. The results of that persistence and vision is paying off in spades, despite the howls of leftists worldwide, as we today have working missile defense systems either in field, or soon to be fielded; including laser based systems for which Reagan was mercilessly ridiculed by the ignorant ‘academics’ and the press. Hunter was and is perhaps the staunchest anti-communist to sit in Congress. He was the leader most responsible, aside from Reagan, for stemming the commie-creep in Central America during the 1980s, and his disdain for communism has never ebbed.

Vision vs. Pandering: Why Duncan Hunter is the ONLY choice – Part 1

I had a recent opportunity to have some holiday cheer and briefly talk politics with two longtime conservative associates; one a Mike Huckabee leaner and the other a Fred Thompson guy. The arguments (paraphrasing) went like this:

Huckabee guy: Huck is the one who can truly re-energize the Christian Conservatives in the party, he has a good sense of humor, presents himself well and his personality surely will attract moderates, not scare them off. His recent ‘surge’ is evidence of a winning political ear, which we will need to beat Hillary. He also was a successful governor from a Southern state, and despite a few missteps that all politicians have, he has a solid, conservative platform, just check out his website. Besides, Hunter does not have traction.

Thompson guy: Fred is the guy to beat Rudy McRomney. His record on fiscal issues and government reform and federalism is impressive and no one ever considered him a liberal, like some of these other schmucks. And his endorsement by the National Right to Life organization last month over Huck and Hunter shows that he is fully capable of carrying the values voters. And his recent position papers on social security and Illegal immigration are the type of clearheaded thinking the country needs in a President.

Me: Just look at their records in totality. Hunter is strongest and most consistent on borders, military affairs, foreign policy, sovereignty, tax cuts, anti-communism, all the most important things we need in a commander in chief right now. Hunter’s warnings about China and porous borders and losses of industrial might have all come home to roost, and most of the other candidates have been far less than helpful in these areas throughout their careers.

Three reasonable arguments for three Republicans in good standing? So it would seem.

But there is a significant difference that my friends both grudgingly admitted to: Hunter has been the most consistent of the three throughout their careers. However, both stressed the ‘here and now’, using Huckabee’s recent “strong” position on enforcing our borders and Fred’s willingness to tackle entitlements, respectively, as more proof of their candidate’s veracity and viability.

But if we are to give great weight to what a politician says during the course of a campaign for the GOP nomination, then one could argue that Rudy and McCain and Romney also deserve accolades and support for their candidacies. And indeed, they do have a fair amount of support and accolades at this time. If you read the position papers and policy statements and see the debate answers from each of these men, it is possible to coherently argue for any one of them being the superior man for President.

Though both of my friends were more than happy to rake Rudy and Romney and McCain over the coals for their past ‘sins’ against conservatism, they were able to minimize and basically ignore the less savory aspects of their chosen man’s record with ease. I do not argue that all transgressions against conservatism are equal, they are not. But giving undue weight to the rhetoric of a candidate’s stump speech or policies posted on a campaign website is an exercise in rationalization, not prudent evaluation.

So how do we separate them as they all dash for the title of ‘strong conservative leader’? The answer: Vision.

Vision is what separates a man like Ronald Reagan from a man like his Vice President, George Herbert Walker Bush. Vision provides the ability to see what lies over the horizon, the courage to confront it before it spins into chaos, and the wisdom to apply conservative solutions, regardless of how tantalizing or expedient a more liberal remedy may be. Vision also entails the ability to clearly recognize history for what it truly is, including the underlying wisdom our founders espoused, and including the knowledge of man’s nature. Congress cuts funding for Mexican trucks

Congress has passed a bill that cuts funding for the controversial Mexican truck program, but lawmakers expect the Bush administration to keep the foreign vehicles rolling on American roads amid safety and security concerns.

Joe Kasper, spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., told WND that "without federal funding, it will be difficult to continue the program. However, we must expect that the administration will continue looking for ways to do so."

The newly passed 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Act prohibits the Department of Transportation from using the funds in it "to establish a cross-border motor carrier demonstration program to allow Mexico-domiciled motor carriers to operate beyond the commercial zones along the international border between the United States and Mexico."

I may not agree with everything in this article, but it disucssues the impending threat of China that only Republican Candidate Duncan Hunter points out and mentions him being the best choice.

Duncan Hunter, arepresentative in Congress for Southern California and Republican presidential candidate in 2008, seems to hardly have ever met an environmental cause that he gave a damn about. In fact, in 2006, Congressman Hunter didn’t meet a single piece of environmental legislation that he was willing to support. His rating in the League of Conservation Voters National Environmental Scorecard for 2006 was zero percent. Duncan Hunter didn’t vote in favor of keeping the environment clean one single time.

Tancredo Drops Bid for White House

Rep. Tom Tancredo announced Thursday he is dropping out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination and endorsing rival Mitt Romney.

Tancredo, a five-term congressman from Colorado, has consistently polled at the bottom of the nine-person Republican field. He based his campaign on fighting illegal immigration and has run television ads that link lax border control to terrorist attacks, rape and other crimes.

He announced his withdrawal in downtown Des Moines two weeks before Iowa begins the presidential nominating process with the state's precinct caucuses.

In the Hunter camp, we are dissapointed that Tom Tancredo didn't throw his support behind Duncan Hunter. He says in the following article:

"True to his single issue focus, Tancredo chose to throw his support behind former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney out of a mixture of agreement and spite. Romney, 'has actually got a record,' said Tancredo. 'He was governor of a liberal state but opposed drivers licenses for illegal immigrants and instate tuition for illegal immigrants� at a time when they weren't issues on the national scene.'"

However, a supporter of Tancredo who heard the announcement as he arrived at Tancredo's campaign office to volunteer commented:

"When asked if he would follow Tancredo's endorsement and support Romney, Johnson said he'd be more inclined to support California Congressman Duncan Hunter, another dark horse candidate who's tough on immigration. 'I don't like Romney,' Johnson said, before driving off in his dusty grey sedan.

'God Bless him,' said Tancredo said of his last would-be volunteer. 'Duncan Hunter is a great guy. Duncan Hunter doesn't have a chance. I have better numbers than Duncan. One of the reasons I'm endorsing Romney is he can go the distance.'"

I think Tancredo is a good man, but Duncan Hunter is/was his friend and has indicated he'll be in it until the end. They worked together on border control issues. To not endorse Hunter, especially when Hunter has the best record on immigration, is wrong. The good news is that many supporters of Tancredo also like Hunter. Hopefully we will gain a lot of his supporters in our camp. Hunter can win. All you have to do is get behind him, believe, and work. We can do it!

This is one of those stories that we at Hot Air fully expected to have to write. Where Washington and border security are concerned, the course of events is always predictable: Congresscritters say what they think they have to say to calm us yahoos down, and then they strike some midnight deal to render everything that they said a lie. We may have to unleash YouTube on these weasels again.

In this clip, Rep. Duncan Hunter lays into the miscreants in Congress who have once again proven that our political class is corrupt and uninterested in what the majority of the country wants done. I left in the tail end of Beck’s opening rant prior to Hunter’s interview to give you a couple of nuggets to prove my point on that. It’s another day in Washington, basically.

Glenn Beck also makes an excellent point about border patrol officers, which could easily be applied now to military members and the CIA agents who had to deal with high-value al Qaeda targets: Why do those jobs when you know with 100% certainty that the denizens of the Beltway will sell you out every chance they get?

De-Fence, De-Fence

Immigration: Congressional Democrats, and some Republicans, gut the Secure Fence Act in the omnibus spending bill against the wishes of the American people. In a bill with 9,000 earmarks, border security takes a back seat.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 required the construction of 700 miles of border fence, modeled on the success of the border barriers in the San Diego sector of the U.S. border. The operative word is "secure."

That legislation specifically called for "two layers of reinforced fencing" and listed five specific sections of the border where it should be built. The omnibus spending bill removes the requirement for two tiers and the specific list of locations.

Washington, D.C.–Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter returned to Washington this morning to immediately begin his efforts to overturn provisions contained in a Democratic spending bill that eliminates current legal requirements for double-layered border fencing.
Congress last year passed legislation authored by Hunter, the Secure Fence Act, mandating double-layered fencing and related infrastructure at strategic entry points along the Southwest border.

“Now is the time when those who take the threat to our nation’s borders seriously stand up and be counted,” said Hunter. “Last year, Congress successfully passed legislation that mandated a double fence requirement based on the success of the border fence we’ve built in San Diego. The Democrat majority in this Congress has taken it upon themselves to overturn federal law to pursue a policy that does nothing but harm our border enforcement capabilities. This is not leadership, it is irresponsibility.

“Border enforcement is too serious of an issue to pursue only when politically convenient at election time. If Congress is to reverse its border stance after just one year, what message does that send to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers who are watching to see how serious we are about protecting America’s borders? I believe we must uphold our nation’s immigration laws, support our agents serving on the border and protect our border communities and I am going to make every effort to overturn the damage this Democrat leadership has caused.”

H.R. 2764, a bill that provides funding for several federal departments and agencies, was brought to the House floor and passed late last evening by the Democratic leadership. Not only does the bill contain provisions removing all specific locations as outlined by the Secure Fence Act, it also removes all requirements to construct any fencing or physical barriers along the border. This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act and undermines past efforts to secure our nation’s border.

H.R. 2764 has been referred to the Senate for consideration and then will be returning to the House with any changes in the form of a conference report. Congressman Hunter is working with his colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that these dangerous provisions do not remain in the final version of the funding bill.

Throughout his nearly thirty years in Congress, Rep. Hunter (R-CA) has been a prominent voice on national defense and military issues. A Vietnam veteran, Hunter previously chaired the House Armed Services Committee and has long supported increased defense spending. He is the co-chair of the House National Security Caucus and supports the Bush administration’s efforts in Iraq.

Hunter has pressed for the construction of a fence on the U.S.-Mexican border, which borders his district. Under his leadership, nearly sixty miles of fencing along the border in San Diego County have been constructed. Presidential Candidates Change Answers on Homosexual Issues

Candidates aspiring to be Commander-in-Chief should state their position on military social policies that directly affect discipline, morale, and overall readiness. Voters need to know, for example, what standards and principles will the next president apply on issues such as homosexuals in the military? To obtain answers, on November 1 the Center for Military Readiness began conducting a non-partisan 2008 Presidential Candidate Survey.

Responses so far raise more questions than provide answers. We are left wondering how far would some candidates go in forcing feminist and homosexual agendas on the armed forces? And why are other candidates slow to take a principled stand against harmful social engineering in the military? These are inconvenient questions, but Americans need answers before primary votes are cast in 2008.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee provided solid responses to most of CMR’s questions, which assign highest priority to military necessity, and support compliance with regulations and law regarding women in or near direct ground combat. Huckabee also opposes Selective Service registration of young women, female sailors serving on submarines, the still-unratified CEDAW Treaty, tax-funded feminist power bases in the Pentagon, and problematic family policies that subsidize and increase single parenthood, particularly in the National Guard.

On 10 December 2007, I had the opportunity to attend the “Secure Borders Christmas party” at the Italian American Club in Las Vegas. Duncan Hunter was the guest speaker. Mr. Hunter spoke informatively for 2 hours to a packed dinner hall of enthusiastic Republicans. Although the event was mostly for individuals involved with the border issue, Mr. Hunter expanded on several other issues that will affect our population in the future. The audience responded to Mr. Hunter’s innovative and common sense platforms with round after round of applause and standing ovations.

In 2017, the average age of the baby boomer will be 70 years old. If medical costs continue to inflate 10 percent a year, it will only take another 7.2 years for these costs to double. Add the baby boomer generation that is 80 million strong, and our present healthcare system is untenable. I asked this same question to Duncan Hunter. Unlike many of the other candidates, both Republican and Democrat, who want to expand government or mandate coverage, Mr. Hunter has a different approach.

Duncan Hunter wants to bring back the family doctor. He feels that most doctors would love to have a simpler method of payment from patients. When a doctor gets paid, a little goes to the insurance company, a little goes to the lawyers, a little goes to several different book keepers etc. Some 30 percent goes to just administration. 10 to 15 percent of medical costs go to attorneys and patient malpractice awards. Some doctors pay in excess of $120,000 a year in malpractice insurance.

NASHUA – Speaking to about 40 BAE Systems workers in what he called a "town hall meeting," Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter again blasted an opponent because his former company is doing business with a Chinese defense contractor.

Hunter, a U.S. congressman from California, called on Bain Capital, a company founded by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, another GOP presidential contender, to drop its strategic partnership with Chinese defense contractor Huawei Technologies in a bid to buy U.S. defense contractor 3Com.

Hunter will also ask Romney to use his influence with Bain to end the proposed merger between Huawei and 3Com.

Would eliminate 854-mile barrier approved by Congress

Republican presidential hopeful Duncan Hunter is blasting a Democrat-sponsored bill that would eliminate the requirement passed by Congress to build a double-layered fence covering 854 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.

"By eliminating the double fence requirement, the Democratic Congress is going to make it easier for drug and human smugglers to cross our Southern land border," said Hunter. "This goes against the interests of any family that has been touched by illegal drugs or any American who has seen their job taken by an illegal alien."

The Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations bill would specifically eliminate the mandate of the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

Personal: At home in Alpine, Calif., Hunter attends the 400-member Trinity Baptist Church in nearby El Cajon. The pastor, Bob Winterton, often calls on him to deliver the benediction. A perfect day for Hunter: hiking, fishing, camping or hunting with family or friends. His wife is a crack shot: In Wyoming last month, she bagged an antelope at 453 yards. Aviation legend Chuck Yeager is a longtime friend of Hunter and his family and is an avid supporter of his campaign.

His prospects: Flagging. In a recent Gallup poll, Hunter was backed by just 1 percent of the Republicans surveyed nationwide. Of the eight major Republicans running for president, Hunter is tied for eighth place with Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado. As of the end of September, he had just $3,227 in his campaign war chest, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

Hunter lays claim to Reagan mantle

A Vietnam veteran elected to the U.S. House at the age of 32, Rep. Duncan Hunter might be the most "Reagan-esque" candidate among a field of Republican presidential hopefuls claiming the Reagan mantle.

Like his political hero, Hunter, R-Calif., is and has been a hawk and leads the fight for more resources for the military.

Although he doesn't agree with President Bush all the time, he has backed the president on every Iraq vote. He silenced the war critics two years ago when he introduced a resolution calling for the deployment of troops to Iraq to end immediately. He opposed the resolution but made his point that the majority of House members supported the war. His resolution was defeated, 403-3.

Duncan Hunter Is The Only Candidate To Get An "A" Rating From God Voter!

Current Status: Congressman Duncan Hunter has shared his Christian testimony.

While we don't agree with all of his opinions, we were impressed with the majority of them and particularly impressed with his candor and courage (e.g., see his answer to question 9).

We knew very little about this Congressman from California until receiving his answers, which made us take another look. Frankly, we liked what we found, including the following:

He walks his talk. His pro-life, anti-embryonic stem cell research, anti-pornography, anti-illegal immigration and pro-strong defense positions are backed by the bills he authored, the border fence he built, his service as an Army Ranger in Vietnam and his own son having served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a US Marine.

Congressman Hunter, who has been married to one wife, is a Christian who testifies about the Lord when asked, has been re-elected six times, has gravitas, and his tenure as the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee should be useful to leading a nation fighting two wars.

Why isn't Congressman Hunter doing better in the polls?

The main reason may be most people knowing as little about him as we knew prior to receiving his answers, simplistically as the "border guy" from a border area. We think the problem is exposure, not quality. In terms of the latter, he is the strongest candidate in the field.

Congressman Hunter, we thank you for your Christ-honoring testimony, congratulate you on your candidacy, and strongly encourage you and your staff to remain in the race to the end. We want you to win the Presidency. But even if you don't, we think the Lord will be pleased with a candidate who ran the race focused on Him instead of the poll numbers.

'Where's the fence?' activist asks Congress

Budget amendment 'threatens' border security plan

Steve Elliott, the president of Grassfire, says he still wants to know, "Where's the fence?"

Elliott, in a telephone interview, told WND an amendment submitted by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, for the Department of Homeland Security 2008 budget would gut the already-approved Secure Fence Act, which was adopted with the promise hundreds of miles of physical fencing would help secure the U.S. border with Mexico.

But the budget bill now in a conference committee contains the Hutchinson amendment, and Elliott says it simply would drop the requirement for the security project.

Abortion foes take new course: 'personhood'

Duncan Hunter has been introducing an act that would recongize personhood nationwide for years in Congress. On his Issues Page he says, "Likewise, I have also introduced the Right to Life Act, which would legally define “personhood” as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn without utilizing a constitutional amendment."

Since this hasn't been able to get done federally, states are catching onto Duncan Hunter's approach.

Opening a new front in their assault on abortion, activists in half a dozen states are preparing ballot referendums that would grant "personhood" and constitutional rights to embryos from the moment of conception.

The drive is under way in Colorado, where activists have begun gathering signatures for an initiative, and Georgia, where the Legislature will take up the issue when it reconvenes in January. Abortion opponents in Montana, Oregon, Mississippi and Michigan are among those considering similar measures.

The new strategy takes an idea that has been central to the pro-life movement - that human life begins when an egg is fertilized - and makes it the centerpiece of state efforts to overturn women's legal right to an abortion. If the embryo is declared a person under a state's constitution, the reasoning goes, the termination of its existence must be considered murder.

This debate was unique in that it was designed to appeal to Hispanic voters. It was shown on Univision in Spanish for Hispanics, but I have an English transcript for everyone to read. The only candidates that did not particapate were Tom Tancredo and Alan Keyes. Unfortunately, you'll note Duncan Hunter did not get introduced like the other candidates, and he did not get as much time. He did well for the questions asked and in the time alloted.

MODERATOR: Congressman Hunter, I want to ask you the same question. How are you going to think (inaudible) you’re going to recover the lost ground among Hispanics?

HUNTER: Well, you know what? I understand.

I talked to Donna Shalala, and she said actually a number of young people are going to register to vote tonight, and I want them to register for our party, for the Republican Party.

And I’ll tell you a great reason to be a Republican. And it’s a story that’s told 90 miles away and 1,500 miles away, because 90 miles away, in 1961, the Cuban freedom fighters fought on the beach in Cuba against Castro’s forces.

And a Democrat administration let their aircraft carrier sit there, while those freedom fighters were machine-gunned, because they felt there was too much pressure coming from the United Nations — either machine-gunned or captured.

Many years later, 1,500 miles away, in a little place called El Salvador, a Republican president, Ronald Reagan, provided that little shield around that government, while they stood up and had free elections and brought freedom to El Salvador.

It’s a story of two parties. It’s a story of the party of freedom. That’s the Republican party. That’s why I would register Republican and support our party this year.

MODERATOR: Congressman Hunter, why not support the (amnesty) legalization?

HUNTER: Did you ask the same question?

MODERATOR: OK, why you’re not support that idea?

HUNTER: Listen, when I was — when I came back from Vietnam, I was a practicing lawyer in the barrio. I was the only lawyer there, and I never turned away a family that came in and needed help.

But I told them a couple of things. One thing is, you have to be here legally, because the first thing you’ve got to learn in this country is the rule of law. And the second thing is, you have to make sure that your kids learn English, because that is the American opportunity.

Now, in 1983, we gave an amnesty, and when we gave that amnesty, 3 million people came in who were allowed to stay in who were here illegally. We said at that point, no more, and we’re not going to let anybody else come in.

After that, 12 million more people came in. If we give an amnesty to this next batch of 12 million people, you will have a third wave of people coming in expecting to catch the third amnesty.

You know, this lady behind me represents a lot of things. One is welcoming immigrants to America. The other is the rule of law. We have to establish the rule of law, and people who are here illegally have to go home.

(APPLAUSE)

MODERATOR: The vast majority of Hispanics, four out of five, are either legal residents or American citizens. Many of them feel affected by the negative tone of the immigration debate. How would you — what would you do to curb this anti-Hispanic sentiment?

First of all, Congressman Hunter...

HUNTER: You know, I represent a district in San Diego, California and Imperial County, California, and that county for many, many years is a majority Hispanic and two-to-one Democrat. And I’m known as the guy who built the double-border fence that lowered the crime rate so dramatically, that stopped all the drug trucks from coming through, that stopped the smuggling of people and narcotics by more than 90 percent.

You know what you do? You look people in the eye and you talk to them frankly.

I would say this: I got more votes from the Hispanic community — known as the guy who built the border fence — from the Hispanic community, than anybody running for office, whether it was President Clinton on a presidential year, or one of the local or the state assemblyman or U.S. Senators.

That means that the Hispanic community in the United States does not agree with the idea of having open borders. They do agree with the idea of having order on the border and having a regulated system where this lady of freedom standing behind me, the Statue of Liberty, says: Come in, but follow the rules.

MODERATOR: Thank you.

The next question, of course, if regarding Iraq.

Congressman Hunter, surveys show that two out of three Hispanics think that the United States should withdraw its troops from Iraq. How would you convincethem of the fact that they should stay there — the troops should stay there?

HUNTER: Well, you know, there’s lots of Hispanic Americans serving in Iraq.

And my son came back from his third tour as a U.S. Marine on Thanksgiving, having served in Iraq twice and Afghanistan.

And, you know, if you check with the Hispanics of the 1st Marine Division or the 10th Army Division of the 1st Cavalry, you’ll get a lot different poll than the poll that you’re telling me right now, because the young men and women who are serving over there know we can win in Iraq.

And let me tell you what they’ve done. With blood, sweat and tears they have brought down the attack rate in Anbar province by 80 percent. They brought it down over the entire nation.

The Iraqi army is now standing up, all 131 battalions. That government’s going to hold and the army’s going to hold, and we are going to leave Iraq in victory, and we’re going to leave an Iraq that will be a friend, not an enemy of the United States.

So we’re going to be victorious in Iraq, and Hispanic Americans who serve there know that.

MODERATOR: Congressman Hunter, you know that problem of dropping out of Hispanics...

HUNTER: You know, in California there was a great teacher named Jaime Escalante, who taught calculus. And he taught calculus in the barrio so effectively that his kids when they took the test were accused of cheating by the school district because they scored so high.

Jaime Escalante brought to the school system the one thing that we need throughout America, and that is inspiration, because young people are deciding what they want to do when they’re in third, fourth, fifth, sixth grade.

And what we’re going to have to do — and incidentally, Jaime Escalante ultimately left that school district and the calculus program went down because he had a run-in with the teachers union.

What we have to do in this country is to take away all this old credentialing. We’ve got to bring in aerospace engineers and pilots and mathematicians and scientists and business-people, and we have to bring in people who can inspire kids at a young age to reach for the stars, and then convince them to work hard enough to get there.

Inspiration, that’s how we increase our capability in education.

MODERATOR: Congressman Hunter, what would be — what role would Hispanics play in the future of our society?

HUNTER: Well, first, I want them to play a role as Republicans. And I want to invite, again, all the young people who are — registering to vote — tonight — to just remember a couple of things.

One thing is that that lady in El Salvador who stood there in the line for the elections after a Republican president, Ronald Reagan, had protected El Salvador and provided for free elections, and she had a bullet hole in her arm and she was asked, do you want to go to the aid station, and she said, yes, but first, I vote.

So, remember, Republicans stand for freedom.

Secondly, I want you to remember the Republicans stand for life, that the man who founded our party, Abraham Lincoln, did so on the basis of the value of human beings.

And lastly, I’d like you to remember that, you know, Democrats think this is a great country because of what government does for people, while Republicans think this is a great country because of what free people do for themselves.

Hyde's humor, bipartisanship lauded at his funeral

The tribues to longtime Congressman Henry Hyde were plentiful at his funeral mass today in St. Charles. The eulogies hit on Hyde's sense of humor and his bipartisan spirit.

His son, Bob Hyde, said Rep. Hyde taught his children to never take themselves too seriously. Henry Hyde told his children the story of a basketball game when he had to decline the coach’s offer of playing time because he had leant his shorts to a starter on the team and had nothing but underwear on beneath his warm-ups.

“Whenever I hear someone say ‘He would give the shirt off his back’ I smile and think about that,” Bob Hyde said.

The following are the responses of five of the leading Republican presidential candidates to eight questions posed by New Hampshire Business Review. All candidates were given a 150-word-per-answer limit. Responses were edited down to that length if they exceeded it. Three of the other leading candidates – former Tennessee Sen. Health Care

Q: What would you do to relieve the health-care insurance burden on business?

CALIFORNIA CONGRESSMAN DUNCAN HUNTER: I believe the best way to address health-care reform is by bringing freedom back to the system.

First, consumers should have the freedom to buy health insurance across state lines. Second, consumers should make their own informed health-care choices and, therefore, we must require full disclosure of service costs.

We can achieve a more vibrant and cost-effective health-care delivery system if we return the eye of the consumer to the purchase of health care rather than continue the false market that has been negotiated between insurance companies and service providers. Third, I support the development of a direct payment system between patient and doctors. This will revitalize the family doctor and ensure that patients have a relationship with their provider that will ultimately decrease costs and provide for better outcomes. Freedom is the answer to health care, not mandates.

Foreign workers

Q: Many New Hampshire employers are dependent on foreign workers, but others say they take jobs from U.S. citizens. What do you propose to do with the immigrant visa programs specifically and immigration in general?

HUNTER: I have represented a border community for over 25 years, so I know and understand the impacts of illegal immigration on our communities. The U.S. has one of the most generous immigration and guest worker programs in the world. We welcome nearly 1 million people into our country each year – what I like to call the “front door.” We can’t make changes to our legal visa programs until we secure our border and close the “back door.”

As president, securing our borders will be one of my very first priorities and I intend to build the border fence mandated in the Secure Fence Act in six months. After we have fully implemented border security, we can closely consider whether any changes are needed in our existing visa programs.

Sub-prime mortgages

Q: What would you do about bailing out investors and mortgage companies and helping those facing foreclosure? How do you feel about regulating such lending to prevent similar situations in the future?

HUNTER: Owning a home is part of the American dream and I support policies that make home ownership more accessible for families of all income levels. I support the administration’s recent policy adjustments that encourage lenders to work with borrowers to renegotiate terms and increase the flexibility of FHA loans so qualified borrowers can move to longer term fixed loans.

It is important to note that according to the Mortgage Bankers Association, 35 percent of homeowners own their homes outright; 95 percent of all mortgages are being paid on time and 85 percent of sub-prime mortgages are also being paid on time. I support taking steps to increase disclosure to ensure consumers have all the information they need, but additional burdensome regulations are not the answer.

People need to have the freedom to make their own choices, with an understanding of the consequences. More government intervention is not the solution.

Tax code

Q: What changes would you make that would directly affect business?

HUNTER: The backbone of our national economic success is our manufacturing base. Unfortunately, over the last decade, our domestic manufacturing base has been relocating to foreign shores, most notably China. In fact, according to the Economic Policy Institute, as many as 13,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in New Hampshire alone since 2001.

I believe this decline in U.S. manufacturing will have severe ramifications, including the loss of high-quality jobs and an inability to arm and defend ourselves in the future. Therefore, I support removing all federal income taxes on domestic manufacturing goods which will help level the playing field for domestically manufactured goods here at home and improve the competitiveness of U.S.-made goods in the global marketplace. This will increase tax receipts both locally and at the federal level as more people are employed in higher-yield jobs.

Labor

Q: What specific changes in federal policy– such as minimum wage or union recognition – would you favor or oppose?

HUNTER: Labor unions have made significant contributions in the areas of worker and consumer safety as well as fair compensation for American workers. Their contributions should not be overlooked. However, with the exception of public safety employees, who by the nature of their job cannot strike, I do not believe that membership in a union should be compulsory.

While unions still have a role in today’s workplace, underhanded tactics that take away a person’s right of free association cannot be tolerated. Entering a union should be a choice, not a mandate. Further, dues paid by a union member should not be used in political contributions without the knowledge and permission of that specific union member. Mandated dues should focus on providing core union services, not on political campaigns that are often divisive.

Environment

Q: What policies would you implement that would directly affect business?

HUNTER: Protecting and improving our environment is one of our greatest challenges. To be successful we must strike a balance between the needs of the environment and those of our communities and families. I support implementing pro-business policies that focus on incentives rather than government mandates. Releasing the power and ingenuity of the American business community to innovate and implement new, clean sources of energy will lead to large economic and environmental advances across the economic spectrum. But it must be accomplished through a regime of incentives, like tax credits, rather than imposing an additional layer of burdensome government mandates and regulations, which often add expensive reporting requirements and little actual positive environmental impact.

Already, there are U.S. companies that, without punitive government intervention, are taking steps to create more environmentally sound operations. We must avoid stifling these advances and instead encourage this innovation and investment economy-wide.

Small business

Q: What would your administration do about existing loan and incentive programs, such as the Small Business Administration? What, if any, new programs are needed?

HUNTER: Small businesses [make] up over 90 percent of private firms, employing approximately 50 percent of private sector employees and create 60-80 percent of net new jobs. Unfortunately, small businesses, particularly those with fewer than 20 employees, spend a significant amount of their resources seeking to comply with complicated federal regulations. My administration will reevaluate these regulations and identify those that restrict and stifle small business growth rather than creating an environment in which it can thrive. I will incorporate policies that remove unnecessary bureaucracy and duplicity and emphasize a streamlined approach for new firms with innovative technologies and techniques to do business with the federal government.

America’s small businesses have also been hurt by trade deals that promised to place them on a more equitable economic playing field with their foreign competitors. These promises haven’t been realized and I am committed to removing America from these unfair trade deals.

Corporate governance

Q: Is the Securities and Exchange Commission going too far, or does it need to be more stringent, in its oversight and enforcement of securities laws? What should be done to insure market integrity?

HUNTER: Insuring market integrity is critical to the efficient function of our capital markets. Investors must have the necessary and accurate information to make informed investment decisions. Without this level of certainty, the system suffers. However, as Congress and the SEC have taken steps to impose regulations to ensure that investors receive accurate information about firms whose securities are traded on public markets, the consequences have been heavy compliance costs.

These burdens of compliance have caused concern that companies are choosing to avoid the U.S. public stock markets and instead listing themselves on private and foreign markets to avoid U.S. securities regulations. Ensuring the viability of our public stock markets is critical for our economy. Therefore, I support efforts to reform Sarbanes-Oxley in a manner that protects market integrity but removes some of the regulatory burden that has caused firms to abandon U.S. stock markets.

Kline, himself a retired Marine Corps colonel, mentioned his son's upcoming tour during debate on the House floor over a motion by Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., related to the 2008 defense authorization bill

Kline's son, who is known as Dan Kline, is a Black Hawk helicopter pilot with the Army's 101st Airborne Division. He previously served in Afghanistan and served a full tour in Iraq from 2005-2006.

Holding a Bible, Joseph Dearing from Dallas, Texas, asked the candidates, “Do you believe every word of this book? Specifically, this book that I am holding in my hand, do you believe this book?” Congressman Hunter has sent Mr. Dearing the following letter in answer to his question:

Dear Mr. Dearing:

At last week’s CNN-You Tube debate, you asked the question of all of us “Do you believe in every word of this book?” meaning the Bible. As you know, the moderator called on my fellow candidates Governor Romney, Mayor Giuliani and Governor Huckabee to answer, but I myself was not given an opportunity. Allow me to respond directly to your question now. Do I believe every word of the Bible? Yes, by faith.

I find the center of the Bible to be these words: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life,” John 3:16. If you believe in this promise, which so obviously is not scientifically provable, then is there any other event in the Bible that God’s hand cannot accomplish?

On June 28, 1787, at the Constitution Convention when the delegates appeared to be hopelessly deadlocked, old Ben Franklin made a speech, the central sentence being the following: “The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”

Following this statement, Franklin made a request resulting in the delegates approving a motion by James Madison to open every session with a prayer. The U.S. Constitution was thus born and this document, which delivers to every American the freedoms we enjoy, was produced by men of great faith and who very strongly believed in the Bible. Our further freedoms have been defended by American soldiers, 619,000 of whom were killed in battle during the last century, and a vast majority I feel believed the Bible.

I am sending you a book which I hope you will find instructive and persuasive, “A Third Testament” by Malcolm Muggeridge, chronicling the lives of great intellectuals in history who became followers of Christ and who believed in the Bible.

When I am asked by those who pride themselves on the reliance on provable scientific facts regarding the validity of the scriptures, I answer with one such set of facts. There are an infinite number of atoms on the head of a pin, each of which are circled by electrons. Who placed those electrons there? I hope their attempt to answer this question helps them to understand my three-word answer to your original question. Do I believe every word of the Bible? Yes, by faith.

Hunter is a Republican congressman from southern California, and he spoke to a crowd of about 45 people at Sheridan College on Monday.

Hunter said the U.S. has lost more than 3 million manufacturing jobs over the past five years. He said many of those jobs went to China, a country he accuses of cheating on trade.

Sal Casamassima has a story that makes Rep. Duncan Hunter look like one smart cookie.

In fact, Casamassima could be a poster boy for the Alpine congressman's latest complaint that environmental regulations make it hard – that is, expensive or a regulatory nightmare – for some San Diegans to keep fire-prone brush cleared from around their homes.

It would be easy to dismiss Hunter's complaint as just another conservative rant, or to buy some Democrat's argument that he wants an excuse to bad-mouth laws that stifle the moneymaking plans of earth-scorching, construction-happy lobbyists.

I am writing to you today, because this is a very pivotal time in the History of our country. We are at a point in time when the division among Americans has never been greater.

Our Country is at a crossroad, there are forces at work that would have this great nation pushed down the road to the serfdom of socialism, a headless monster that enslaves each and every person to each other, with some “intellectual elite” pulling the strings. By promising “National Health Care” , and a host of other entitlement programs, a lot of Americans are being seduced, seduced into believing that the democratic party is going to carry them from cradle to grave, without any thought of the consequences of their actions, or without making even the slightest attempt to strike a deal with those who perform Health Care and other services. One would think that the lessons learned by the Canadian, and English systems would be enough to teach the world a lesson, but the democrats will not even mention what a disaster they have proven to be to both the Canadians and British peoples.

We are also a country at war, with the threat of Islamo-fascism working in 60 different countries around the world. A threat which is saying to the world, Submit to us or die. The democrats would have us believe that all that needs to be done is to enter into some ‘dialogue’ with the Islamo-fascists, and somehow we could reach some agreement with them, and that they would allow us to go on living in peace, if we would return the favor.

The problem is, that the Islamo-fascists HAVE begun a dialogue with us, and have spoken quite directly to us. Their message is unchanging, Submit to our brand of radical Islam, or die. They are not looking for any kind of truce, or agreement, and they have repeated this so many times that there can be no doubt as to their intentions.

There also can be no doubt that they are willing to die, and to sacrifice as many of their people, including women and children, as necessary to accomplish this goal. This war on terror must be met with a strong force, and measures that will insure that America, and the world is free of this threat, that the seeds of Liberty planted here in America long ago, now get spread to the rest of the world. Our failure to do this in the past, and our penchant to ignore the threat that grew in the Middle East until now, brought us the events of 9-11-01, and the attacks that have been made across the world. One needs only to listen to the videos made by the likes of Osama Bin Laden, and Ahmadinejad of Iran, to understand that they mean business. They have no illusions about what they are doing, and the democrats failure to respond in kind is dangerous.

This war on terror demands from us that we close our borders. It is almost an International joke, that anyone who wishes to sneak into the USA , need only find their way to Mexico first, our southern border is wide open, and one needs only to walk across it, to gain access to the USA, for whatever purpose they have in mind.

My Friend, there is only one candidate in the current crop of presidential hopefuls that will address these issues with the seriousness that they need, and that candidate’s name is Duncan Hunter.

Duncan has stated quite clearly that he will close that border in 180 days, if elected. He will take quite seriously this war on terror, because he understands the implications of it, Implications that will affect our children, and grandchildren for generations to come, unless we act now. Waiting for the terrorists to become strong enough to do real damage to this country, is certainly not an option. Yet the democrats would give them all the time they need, while they engage in ‘diplomacy” which the terrorist will certainly use for cover, while gaining strength, and weapons.

The democrats are also out to reverse the hard fought for Tax Cuts that we gained under the Bush Administration. They claim that by reversing these cuts, they will be able to pay for all of their entitlement programs. The problem is, they are acting as if the economy, (built by these tax cuts), will just continue to grow and prosper even though they are well aware that to reverse them will damage the economy, and once again, cause a concentrated push for those most taxed, to take their jobs and their wealth overseas.

Duncan Hunter is fully aware that further tax cuts are needed, and is supporting the Fair Tax Initiative. He understands that a repressive tax system, that penalizes prosperity, is a total disincentive for prosperity, and leads our best and brightest to develop their ideas, and there goods and services overseas, instead of here at home. It is absolutely Insane that an American Businessman can get a better Tax deal from the Communist Chinese, than from the US Government here at home. It is almost no wonder that many of our best paying jobs have left this country, along with the benefits of the wealth created by them. The Fair Tax, (see here> http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer ) will ensure that Americans with good ideas, and the financiers who help them get started, will start their ideas here, and keep them here. Duncan Hunter is all for this, and will work hard to see it come about.

Duncan Hunter is also addressing the inequalities in our trade with other nations. Too many other nations are allowed to export their goods here, without allowing us to export many of our goods there. Republican hopeful brings platform to North Augusta

The race for the White House took another turn through Aiken County Friday evening, with a visit from Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) at the North Augusta Community Center.

Hunter, an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and has served the San Diego area in Congress since 1981, spoke for about an hour, fielding questions and focusing on his priorities, with foreign trade and illegal immigration among his major concerns.

Addressing international concerns, Hunter focused largely on China's "new flexing of this military muscle that they have." He described that new power as being bankrolled largely by American trade dollars, through Chinese cheating.

Having arrived here a couple of days ago full of thoughts about the falling dollar and the improving state of American trade, it is fascinating to observe at first hand that perceptions of low quality in Chinese products are the issue that seems to be driving consumers away from imports.

Recent recalls of badly designed toys and toxic toothpaste seem to have driven a surge of interest in the "Made in America" label. Websites such as usmadetoys.com offer lists of US products that don'tbite or poison you. This site offers an eco-friendly four tips on buying lead-free toys made in the US. Or look at the poll on Chinese goods on the website of Duncan Hunter, a presidential candidate.

The mass media is talking the issue up. I was surprised to hear advice offered this morning that one advantage of buying goods online is that if they are recalled, you will automatically get an e-mail telling you, without you having had to register your purchase.

One of the things I have stressed on this blog is that the media is giving more time to the upper tier candidates in publicity and debates. It's up to us to help get his name out there. This gentleman took the liberty to write a letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

Hopefully you will recognize these names as presidential candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties, but do you know where they stand on the issues? Likely you don't if you depend on mass media to help you get to know the candidates.

A recent study by the Project for Journalism Excellence, associated with the Pew Research Centers, indicates that more than 50 percent of media coverage has focused on just five presidential candidates: Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, McCain, and Romney.

The study reviewed more than 1,700 campaign stories run from January to May 2007. During that time fewer than a dozen stories focused on Republican candidates Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback, Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. The lower tier Democrats fared a little bit better. There were a total of 75 stories about Chris Dodd, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, and Joe Biden.

Commercial TV network news programs like NBC Nightly News were highlighted as the worst outlets for covering second tier candidates. Those programs did not focus on second tier candidates at all, except for a couple of occasions. PBS was the only network that covered second tier candidates to any degree. Anyone watching the televised debates has seen that these forums have followed a similar pattern - giving most of their airtime to the front runners.

How does this impact presidential politics? Fundraising and poll numbers begets more
media coverage. More media coverage begets higher poll numbers and greater fundraising. It's
a cycle that can make a real difference in the outcome of an election and it is a cycle that is ifficult for second tier candidates to break regardless of how well qualified they may be to become the next president. But, it shouldn't be up to the candidates to break the media part
of this cycle. After all, isn't fairness one of the basic tenants of journalism? Each media outlet should be continually evaluating its coverage to ensure it is providing fair and equal coverage to
all candidates to help voters make well educated voting decisions based on how well qualified a candidate is, not on how much money they can raise.Until that happens, do your own research.
Examine candidates' positions on issues.

Determine, based on your own values and criteria, which candidate should become the
next president of the United States. Don't let the media do it.

1. Duncan Hunter was born on May 31,1948, in Riverside, Calif., where his father was a real estate developer. He and his wife, Lynne, have two sons–one a former Marine who served two tours in Iraq–and several grandchildren.

2. He dropped out of college to serve in the military, where he was an Army Ranger paratrooper in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He received a Bronze Star for his service in 24 helicopter combat assaults.

3. While attending night school to earn his law degree from Western State University through the GI Bill, he supplemented his income by working in farming and construction. Upon graduation, he worked as an attorney, setting up a private practice in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego and providing free legal assistance to many in the area's Hispanic community.

4. He was elected to Congress in 1980 as a part of the Reagan revolution. As a congressman, he is known for his hawkish views and promilitary stance, serving on the Armed Services Committee, and, more recently, the Select Committee on Homeland Security.

5. The American Conservative Union routinely gives Hunter's voting records high scores for voting for conservative policies and agendas, including a perfect score of 100 in multiple years; conversely, the liberal Americans for Democratic Action has on multiple occasions given Hunter's voting record a zero score.

6. In 1988, he used a sledgehammer to make a point–smashing a Toshiba radio to protest the company's sale of submarine technology products to countries in the Soviet bloc–and advocated barring Toshiba from ever doing business in the United States.

7. In 1992, he was troubled by 399 House Bank overdrafts totaling $129,000, and for three days set up a card table in front of the El Cajon courthouse with copies of his checks, ready to explain each one to any voter.

8. In 2001, he lobbied for a $32 billion increase in current spending, and said the Clinton administration was trying to "conduct an aggressive Ronald Reagan foreign policy with a Jimmy Carter defense budget."

9. Throughout his career, Duncan Hunter has lobbied for more controlled measures along the U.S.-Mexico border, including the installation of fences and border crackdowns; ironically, his younger brother John launched the Water Station project, in which volunteers lug thousands of gallons of water throughout the border's desert to prevent undocumented immigrants from dying in the desert as they attempt to cross into the U.S.

Duncan Hunter Holds Informal Meeting In Anderson County

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- In the race for the Republican presidential nomination we hear a lot about candidates like Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. But what about California Rep. Duncan Hunter?

During an appearance Thursday in the Upstate, there were no secret service agents, no campaign entourage and no major network press corps. The candidate held an informal meet-and-greet with supporters at Fuddruckers in Anderson County.

"We're continuing to stand up the Iraqi army. I think that's proceeding the pace," Hunter said in front of the group.

Then he talked about national security. He's against amnesty for illegal immigrants, and he was a sponsor of the bill that established the border fence project last year.

"As I've said on many of the debates, if anyone can climb my border fence, we sign them up for the Olympics," Hunter joked.

He touts the importance of buying products made in America and has some interesting ideas about health care.

"The best thing we can do for health care is let people buy their insurance across state lines," Hunter said.

Charles Crow, of Anderson, has been following Hunter's political career since the 80s and worries he doesn't have the name recognition to win.

Crow says, "It would be easier for me to support Huckabee since he's basically a conservative, and he's a little higher in the polls, but that wouldn't be true to what I believe. I still believe Duncan Hunter would make a much better president."

Hunter said he is proud to have supporters with such principle. He plans to campaign vigorously in early primary states like South Carolina and said he's still very much in the race.

"I've got a chance to win and that's all you get in America, is a chance," he said.

Bain Capital is attempting to form a business arrangement with Huawei Corporation, a Chinese corporation founded by an officer of the Peoples Liberation Army of Communist China, which faces allegations of assisting Saddam Hussein in the targeting of U.S. aircraft and in helping the Taliban develop surveillance equipment.

"I am extremely concerned that Governor Romney's company would tout a highly suspect Chinese corporation as a strategic partner," stated Hunter. "Forming a business partnership with a corporation known to have direct ties with terrorists and dictators while, at the same time, openly seeking to acquire a major U.S. corporation that performs vital cyber security work for the Department of Defense, can only be characterized as irresponsible."

A resolution has been introduced in Congress, H.Res. 730, which states; "The preponderance of publicly available evidence clearly suggests that as currently structured, the proposed transaction involving Huawei threatens the national security of the United States and should not be approved by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States ." A copy of this resolution is provided.

Hunter stated in his letter to Governor Romney, "…while it is true that you no longer control Bain Capital, the contributions you have received from its principals as its founding member indicate that your influence within the company remains strong.

"Further, while the Committee on Foreign Investment has yet to rule on the Huawei transaction, this corporation's connection to Saddam Hussein, the Taliban and the Army of Communist China should clearly disqualify them from becoming, in the words of your former company, "a strategic partner" in acquiring a U.S. firm such as 3COM, which performs vital cyber-security work for the U.S. Department of Defense.

"This letter is a request that you immediately issue a statement of policy that this transaction should be terminated on the grounds of national security. Please let me know what you intend to do." Navy Chief Surprised at China's Refusal of Port Visit for U.S. Ships

Two of the Navy's top admirals said Tuesday that China's refusal to permit a U.S. aircraft carrier to make a Thanksgiving port call at Hong Kong was surprising and troubling.

"This is perplexing. It's not helpful," Adm. Timothy Keating, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, told reporters in a videoteleconference from his headquarters at Camp Smith, Hawaii.

"It's not, in our view, conduct that is indicative of a country that understands its obligations as a responsible nation," he said, adding that he hopes it does not indicate a lasting blockage of port visits.

Hunter asks Bush for China policy meeting

Presidential hopeful Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) is pressing President Bush to call a meeting with several congressional committees to discuss policy towards China in the aftermath of Beijing’s refusal to allow a Navy aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships to dock in Hong Kong last week.

Hunter, the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, asked Bush to convene a meeting “as soon as possible” with the chairmen and ranking members of Armed Services and the House panels on Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Defense Appropriations.

In a letter to Bush on Thursday, Hunter also asked the administration to invest as part of the upcoming fiscal 2009 budget “in technologies to ensure our military remains prepared to meet the challenges that we will face with a China that has become more aggressive militarily.”

Over the next two months, a large amount of media attention will be going to the "first tier" candidates of each political party. These are the candidates who have raised money, signed up a core group of supporters and, most importantly, yet also ironically, managed to gain attention in the media. On both sides of the aisle there are still candidates who have served their country to the best of their abilities and are offering up their own ideas and talents to serve in the highest office.

One of these candidates is Congressman Duncan Hunter, a representative from Southern California. First and foremost, this is not meant to be an endorsement or rejection of Congressman Hunter. However, as the evening news and daily papers will undoubtedly saturate voters with information on Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, it seems a fitting role to find an alternative topic of discussion.

Hunter was elected to Congress in 1980. Since that time he has served on the House Armed Services Committee, acting as chairperson from 2002-2006. The committee is responsible for all legislation dealing with national security and defense.

Unfortunately, Duncan Hunter got screwed. The majority of time was alloted to the so-called, media appointed "top tier". The media tries to pick the candidate for America. I pray America rejects that and looks at all the candidates!

Again, the question to Congressman Hunter.

Hunter: General, thanks for your service, but I believe in what Colin Powell said when he said that having openly homosexual people serving in the ranks would be bad for unit cohesion.
The reason for that, even though people point to the Israelis and point to the Brits and point to other people as having homosexuals serve, is that most Americans, most kids who leave that breakfast table and go out and serve in the military and make that corporate decision with their family, most of them are conservatives.

They have conservative values, and they have Judeo-Christian values. To force those people to work in a small tight unit with somebody who is openly homosexual goes against what they believe to be their principles, and it is their principles, is I think a disservice to them. I agree with Colin Powell that it would be bad for unit cohesion.

General Kerr is not happy with the answer and after Huckabee and Romney are given time, he says so.

Kerr: With all due respect, I did not get an answer from the candidates.

Cooper: What do you feel you did not...

Kerr: American men and women in the military are professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians.

For 42 years, I wore the army uniform on active duty, in the Reserve, and also for the state of California. I revealed I was a gay man after I retired.

Today, "don't ask/don't tell" is destructive to our military policy.

Every day, the Department of Defense discharges two people, not for misconduct, not for the unit cohesion...

Cooper: Wait, the mike is -- you've lost me. Is the microphone not working? Please, just finish your -- what is your question?

Kerr: Not for the unit cohesion that Congressman Hunter is talking about, but simply because they happen to be gay.

Cooper: OK. Senator McCain ...

KERR: And we're talking about doctors, nurses, pilots, and the surgeon who sews somebody up when they're taken from the battlefield.

Then McCain is given time to respond.

CNN expunged "don't ask, don't tell" question and answers in rebroadcasts of debate

Summary: Rebroadcasts of the CNN/YouTube debate for Republican presidential candidates omitted a question from a retired brigadier general about the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, as well as the candidates' answers to the question. CNN did not note the omission.

In rebroadcasts of the November 28 CNN/YouTube debate for Republican presidential candidates, CNN expunged, without disclosure, a segment in which retired Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr asked the candidates to address "why you think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians." Kerr is a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans for Hillary Clinton steering committee and a co-chairman of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) Veterans and Military Retirees for Hillary Committee. In rebroadcasts of the debate at midnight ET and 3 a.m. ET on November 29, CNN omitted the Kerr question, as well as the candidates' answers to his question.

University of Southern California professor Marty Kaplan noted the omission in a blog entry on The Huffington Post, writing:

Border agents' case gets holiday push

Conservatives expressed bitter disappointment Friday that President Bush did not use the Thanksgiving holiday to pardon two U.S. border agents who have been imprisoned for a year for shooting and injuring a man now accused of drug smuggling.

"We had hoped that President Bush, who was compassionate enough to pardon two turkeys in the Rose Garden, might also have had enough compassion to pardon two law enforcement officers who spent their lives defending us at the border," said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach).

A group of Christian and evangelical leaders -- including Paul M. Weyrich of the Free Congress Foundation, the Rev. Louis P. Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition and David A. Keene of the American Conservative Union -- excoriated Bush, saying his inaction ran counter to compassionate conservatism and Christian values.

Injustice in the line of duty

Stories like Iraq veteran Jordan Fox's are the reason the English language contains words like "Kafkaesque." This Army enlistee was seriously injured in Iraq by an improvised-explosive device detonation that left him blind in one eye and struggling with other serious injuries. While recuperating at home, a letter arrived from the Pentagon. It demanded that he repay $3,000 of his $10,000 enlistment bonus. The reason: He could not fulfill the remainder of his service.

The Pentagon has since corrected itself, claiming that the letter was sent in error. "We have seen where the problems have been made [in] the system," Maj. Nathan Banks told the Pennsylvania CBS affiliate that broke the story. The Pentagon was working hard to "make a wrong a right," he said. According to congressional aides who study the problem, the difficulty lies with error-prone coding systems.

Whatever is being done must not be working. This is an old problem. As far back as October 2004, Brian Ross of ABC News reported an analogous story. Army Spc. Tyson Johnson, who was badly injured by an exploding mortar round in Iraq, received a letter demanding repayment of his enlistment bonus while he was still recuperating in the hospital. In a more recent example, two months ago, National Public Radio reported on Army Spc. Ronald Hinkle, who suffered a traumatic brain injury after an IED explosion cut short his military career. Not only was Spc. Hinkle owed $2,500 in back salary, but two months after NPR's story aired, he was notified that a $3,000 enlistment bonus would not be paid because he "failed to fulfill his contract" — by way of suffering serious injury in the line of duty.

My Coachella Valley Thanksgiving week relaxation aside, I did note this news. For those who have conjectured and wondered whether Duncan D. Hunter would be deactivated soon enough to legally campaign for the CD 52 seat, and for those who hoped he wouldn't be, as well as for those conspiracists who have continued to say he has been nothing but a "place-holder" for his dad's potential run once again in the case of short-lived presidential foray....

I have some wonderful news that I wanted to share with you. My husband, Capt. Duncan D. Hunter, will be returning home from Afghanistan on Thanksgiving Day! As you know, Duncan launched his campaign for Congress in the 52nd district just days before being called up for his third tour of duty since joining the U.S. Marine Corps after 9/11. We are very thankful for his safe return, and very proud of his service to our country.

In a few weeks Duncan will be off active duty and able to campaign full time for Congress.

Military committee member slams war film

A ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee sent a letter to the Chairman of the Motion Picture Association today calling the new Iraq war film "Redacted" a shameful view of American soldiers.

California Republican Duncan Hunter sent a scathing letter regarding Brian DePalma's new Iraq war film to Motion Picture Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman asking that he not forget that there are heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the United States and Iraqi people.

"Unfortunately, Brian De Palma's new movie "Redacted," which opened in several theaters this week, portrays American service personnel in Iraq as uncontrollable misfits and criminals," Mr. Hunter stated in his letter. "While incidents of criminal behavior by members of our military should never be ignored, the isolated incident on which this film is based negatively portrays American service personnel and misrepresents their collective efforts in Iraq."

Calif. lawmaker warns China will overtake U.S. military edge

California Republican lawmaker Duncan Hunter, ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, said a newly released U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission report "validates my concerns that America's defense industrial base is moving to China."

Hunter has long favored stronger export controls on American military components and so-called "dual-use" items, or goods with both commercial and military applications, to China.

"China is using American trade dollars to arm at the same time the Department of Defense is failing to monitor the outsourcing of critical American military components," he said in Nov. 15 statement.

As the campaigning for the 2008 election for President of the United States heats up, we are seeing candidates from both parties taking bolder stances on some issues. Democrats seem more determined than ever for a “change of course” in the War on Terror, Iraq Theater. Translated, that means surrender and abandon the fight just as all signs point to progress. Democrats also seem to be vying for who can raise taxes the highest and offer the most giveaways in their usual bid at class envy saying they will only raise taxes on the “wealthy.”

On the Republican side, other than Libertarian masquerading as a Republican, Ron Paul, all support the fight and all are vying for who is the most conservative, some having to adjust so as to claim a new found conservative stance.

John McCain, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Rudy Guiliani all have past records to some degree of coddling to Liberals on matters as gun control, abortion, same-sex marriage, campaign finance, illegal immigration and more somewhere along the line. In one or more of the areas mentioned, each has caved to the Democrats in their past. Perhaps they felt that seeking the middle ground was easiest or the best way to go to fulfill a promise or stay in office.

The GOP: A House Divided

The GOP has divided like some amoeba on a glass slide under a microscope.

There are the Globalists that continue to warn the various GOP candidates and politicians that they will damage their political careers if they take the side of those wanting to seal the border and strictly enforce existing immigration laws. They blame the discontent by GOP voters on the Iraq War, run-away federal spending and scandalous behavior by elected GOP politicians. They delight in pointing to the downfall of those who have taken strong enforcement first stances. J.D. Hayworth lost his congressional seat in Arizona after taking a tough stance on the border. George Allen of Virginia lost his senate seat, some say for the same reason. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania. And in the current presidential race the campaigns of both hard line border enforcement candidates, Hunter and Tancredo appear to be sinking like a rock. Their fundraising efforts a total joke. Or so these geopolitical elitists would want us to believe.

And then there’s our side of the divided amoeba. We don’t really have “advisers” and “strategists” telling us what our next move should be. We live every day with the reality of illegal immigration and its negative, downward pull on our social structure. We’ve observed the illegals banding together, marching in the streets of America. Streets that we as taxpayers have paid to build. We saw them waving Mexican flags and burning American flags. Their monumental ingratitude. We’ve watched our politicians allow these illegal hordes to invade our nation and enjoy rights and privileges that actually accede our own. And when we dared to raise complaints regarding this dangerous and worsening situation these same politicians, that we elected, presented us with disrespect, insults and intimidation. Yet we fight on to maintain and protect our nations sovereignty.

Sadly, we are losing. The globalists controlling our party seem to be gaining the upper hand. Both Hunter and Tancredo are nearly out of cash ( link ). The other candidates , good men all, will simply not remain on our side in the long term, in my view. They are making all the correct noises now because they want our votes. But when the battle gets intense they’ll fall back on they’re long proven expertise – the art of compromise.

Mr. Madison is Back - ‘Saving the GOP from Itself: Duncan Hunter’

The world changed dramatically in 1980 on the day former California Governor Ronald Reagan trounced the hapless Jimmy Carter in the Presidential election. This was perhaps the Democratic Party’s and the US media’s worst nightmare ever. Not only did America reject the “malaise” of the Carter years, but they embraced a California ‘cowboy’ who believed that America’s best days were yet to come. And Reagan’s coattails provided the opportunity for a number of staunch conservatives to invade the halls of congress, among them, a 33 year old Vietnam combat veteran who would prove to be one of President Reagan’s most fearless allies, Duncan Hunter.

To liberals, academics and the employees of ABC, CBS, NBC and the New York Times, America had finally settled into the role it was supposed to play with the election of Carter in 1976. That role was to be a humble, accommodating nation on the world stage, no better or worse or assertive than other nations. We had ‘lost’ the Vietnam War and it was time to lose our “inordinate fear of communism”. After all, capitalism has many warts, and communism offered an equally ‘valid’ model on which to base a society, they lectured. Other countries’ national interests were as important as ours. The United Nations was the way forward to forming a more peaceful and hopeful and sharing world. The fall of South Vietnam was no cause for alarm, rather Yankee imperialism was the biggest culprit on the world stage. The Cold War was mostly America’s fault and besides, the USSR was here to stay, so America might as well accept that ‘fact’ and learn to coexist. The communist infiltration in Central America and Africa was in fact just poor peasants demanding justice, and if Cuba and the USSR were helping them, so be it; justice is justice, they told us. Eastern Europe had ‘free’ health care for its citizens, after all.

One would think that the minority party during this period, the Republicans, would have been united and working overtime to save this nation from its drift into ‘former superpower’ status. Instead, a large portion of the party had come to accept not only the inevitability of coexistence with the USSR, but the inevitability of socialism in our own domestic policies. Indeed, it was Richard Nixon who swelled the size of the Federal bureaucracy with his creation of the EPA, OSHA, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. Nixon and Henry Kissinger were also the masterminds of the détente policy, a misguided attempt to appease the Soviets. His successor, Gerald Ford, continued the détente policy and continued the march towards Rockefeller republicanism, even going so far to name liberal Nelson Rockefeller as his Vice President. Ford’s full throated support of the Equal Rights Amendment is all one needs to know about the direction of the GOP leadership in the 1970s.

Pressure mounts to pardon Border agents

Top conservatives have joined ranking House leaders in their bid to pressure the president to pardon two jailed El Paso Border Patrol agents for the nonfatal shooting of a Mexican drug smuggler in 2005.

In a letter to be delivered tomorrow to the White House, 31 major conservative petitioners joined a campaign being led by Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican and presidential candidate, to ask President Bush to pardon Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean before Thanksgiving.

The letter comes on the heels of the arrest of admitted drug smuggler Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila on charges of trafficking marijuana while he was profiting from the federal-immunity deal as the star witness in the shooting case against the agents.
