RUSH: I got a fax from Duncan Hunter here, Republican presidential candidate and ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee in the US House. "Dear Rush: The Iraq funding bill that the Democrats passed last night includes one of the most devastating provisions ever passed during a military conflict. Page four of the bill states this: 'None of the funds may be used to deploy any unit to Iraq unless the president has certified in writing to the committees on appropriations and Armed Services at least 15 days in advance of the deployment that the unit is fully mission capable.' Today, our military operations in Iraq involve dozens of units moving across the Iraq border every 24 hours. These units may be aircraft called from an aircraft carrier off the coast or the air base in Turkey or Special Forces, SEAL/Ranger teams, special explosive teams or any of a number of other specialized reaction forces. Thus the Democrat notify-and-wait-for-fifteen-days provision, if it becomes law, will endanger our troops in Iraq by prohibiting supportive or reinforcing units from coming to their aid in a timely fashion. In this war against terrorism, targets are acquired which present only small windows of opportunity, sometimes involving minutes, some involving hours. For the Democrat leadership to require fifteen-day waiting periods for reaction forces is a remarkable disservice to every American in Iraq."
He sent along the relevant language from page four of the legislation, which I just read to you. This is, frankly, amazing. We've got some sound bites on the roster today of Pelosi and Dingy Harry talking about their latest bid to secure defeat. Congressman Hunter does not say this in his fax to me, but, ladies and gentlemen, it is clear that provisions like this -- and everything else they've been doing -- is oriented toward losing, particularly now, when we're on the verge of victory. The Democrats cannot withstand that politically. They cannot allow that to happen, because they have gone so far over the cliff on this that there's no way that they can share any credit or even any of the joy in victory. They are trying to sabotage it, and this is going to come back and bite them. I am at a loss here to describe the emotions I'm feeling in trying to analyze this. Never have I seen anything like this in time of war, in my lifetime -- and I doubt that anybody else alive today has, either. The idea that this is going to benefit them and help them? They think this is going to help them? Believe me, if the attitudes of the American people, en masse, were to lose, we would have lost -- just like the attitudes of the American people totally opposed amnesty, and there is no amnesty. They're going to keep trying, obviously, but the bill was defeated.
If the Democrats really had the support of 72% of the American people for getting out and for losing, we would be out. They would have the guts to de-fund it. They'd have the guts to actually pass these resolutions that they propose. They'd have the votes to override any presidential veto if the people were behind 'em. They think the people are behind them, but they aren't. This incessant, over-the-top devotion and playing to their wacko base is -- trust me on this -- going to hurt them big time. They're afraid of them. MoveOn.org and these groups out there are threatening, especially candidates in the House of Representatives, "If you don't do the right thing on this, we're going to find candidates to run against and you we're going to run ads against you, and we're going to make sure that you lose, and we're going to get some anti-war Democrats in there if we have to get you out." So there's a little personal fear of these groups actually being able to defeat them next November. It's also fundraising. But it's also illustrative that they don't give a rat's ass about the country. They just don't. They don't care about the US military. They are happy. Their joy will be if we lose this if they can secure defeat.
Ponder that for a moment.

Hunter Position on Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants: "No, Period."
I love his jab at Hillary Clinton. This would be the PERFECT candidate to take on the Democrats in the general, but we need YOUR help to get him the nomination. Join the National and Ohio Meetups and the National Yahoo Groups. Donate to the November Fundraiser. We can't do it without YOU! :)
Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter today reaffirmed his long-held position that as President he will not support any legislation that provides drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In recent weeks, Senator Hillary Clinton has stated that she was both for and against providing drivers licenses to those here illegally, with her latest decision falling on the same day that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer announced that he was abandoning his controversial plan to issue licenses to undocumented immigrants.
"This is not a subject that our political leaders should be going back and forth on," stated Hunter. "All aspects of combating illegal immigration are important, but the ramifications are higher when we are discussing areas where opportunities are actually being created for those illegally in our country to be provided with a form of identification accepted nation wide.
"At tonight's Democratic debate, I expect Senator Clinton to once again state her position on this important issue based on who is in the audience and what they will like to hear. I disagree with that philosophy and I believe it is simply irresponsible. Voters should have a clear understanding where the candidates stand on this important issue. With me, people know where I stand and they know that just as I have always opposed providing driver licenses for illegal immigrants, I will continue to do so as President."

Fundraiser
I mentioned early in November that we are doing a fundraiser for Duncan Hunter. This is my post from November 2:
Duncan Hunter is a solid conservative and a good man. One of the reasons he is stuck in the second tier is due to lack of funds. This November, the Yahoo Duncan Hunter group is doing an online fundraiser for Duncan Hunter throughout the month of November. The goal is for each person to donate $200.00 or raise it via garage sales, rolling change, etc. Even if that is too much, there is no amount too small. Each bit adds up. If you would like to donate to Duncan Hunter, you can click on the link to his official site on the right. There are instructions for how to donate to Duncan Hunter there. Good luck! Let's rake in the green for Duncan Hunter!
We are doing something special today, November 15. We are trying to collect $15 on the 15th. You can also donate in multiples of $15 like $30, $45, or numbers like $115, $215, etc. If you have contributed or are going to contribute to make this fundraiser a success, I and the the Hunter Campaign thank you!

Vote for Duncan Hunter!
Choose which Republican you most want to see elected. This should be the candidate you truly believe is most qualified for the job of President of the United States. Throughout the course of this multi-week challenge, the candidates garnering the least support will be knocked out of the race.

Duncan Hunter: Enforce borders. Level the playing field for trade.
This is by Duncan Hunter:
The issues and challenges facing America today require experienced leadership and clear vision. The next American president will assume difficult responsibilities immediately upon taking office, and the challenges facing our nation demand innovative solutions and a commitment to strengthening America’s traditional values and ideals.
To be successful, our nation must maintain its commitment to expanding freedom and protecting free institutions around the world. We must also stay focused on promoting the safety and security of the American people, which includes securing our borders and enforcing our nation’s laws. And it is important that the American people, with their enormous creativity and tireless work ethic, be given a chance to compete in the global marketplace.
Today’s American workers are losing to foreign competition, primarily because of the unfair advantages that have been afforded to our trading partners. An uneven playing field has been created, and our nation’s manufacturing base, once referred to as the Arsenal of Democracy, continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate.
The same Arsenal of Democracy that carried Eisenhower’s forces to Berlin and brought an end to the Cold War can now be found far from America’s shores. The massive production of textiles, steel and machine tools are no longer found in the factories of South Carolina, Ohio and Iowa. This great arsenal can now be found in other industrial countries around the world and, perhaps most ominously, China.
China is cheating on trade, and, in the process, it is buying ships, planes and missiles with American trade dollars, demonstrating that this is not merely a trade issue, but also a security issue. And how is China cheating?
When we enter into a trade deal with China, its manufacturers are given a 17 percent subsidy for exporting their products to the United States. When American products arrive on China’s shores, they are immediately levied with a 17 percent tax. Then China devalues its currency by 40 percent.
In order to remain competitive, we must eliminate this disparity and level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers. My administration will stand up to China and other nations by placing countervailing duties against their products when they break the rules. Further, my administration will engage in what I call “mirror trade.” A nation that places a 20 percent tariff against U.S. goods will see a reflection of their tariffs when its products reach our shores.
I also believe we must secure our borders and aggressively enforce our nation’s immigration laws. As a representative of a border community for more than 26 years, I can offer more than lip service when it comes to addressing the issues associated with illegal immigration and the necessity for border security.
Most notably, I built the San Diego Border Fence - which has reduced the smuggling of people and narcotics by more than 90 percent in our sector - and I wrote the provision of the Secure Fence Act that extends this infrastructure 854 miles across the smuggling routes of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. From our experience in San Diego, we know that fencing works.
As president, I will therefore complete the 854 miles of security fencing presently required by law in six months. The enforcement of existing immigration laws will also be one of my top priorities.
It is equally critical that we enact policies that protect human life and the rights of the unborn. And when we appoint judges, we are handing great power, including the power of life and death, to individual people. Judges must demonstrate discernment and an understanding that the unborn are worthy of protection, or they should not receive an appointment to the bench.
America’s continued success demands that we take the steps necessary to strengthen our nation’s security, restore our nation’s industrial base and protect individual rights, including those of the unborn. This vision, which I will pursue as president, will ensure our nation remains strong and prosperous for future generations of Americans.

A return to Reagan: Hunter wants GOP to adopt former president's values
This is another good article about Hunter in Elko. The whole article gets into energy, Iraq, trade with China, and immigration. It's worth the whole read.
ELKO, Nev. - Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter stood out at a Newmont mine site Monday in his suit, tie and loafers.
This was appropriate since standing out is what many believe Hunter must do to make it past the Republican caucus scheduled Jan. 19 in Nevada.
He was at the site as part of a tour of northern Nevada that included stops in Elko, Carlin, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca and Lovelock.
